Gertrude Behanna - God Isn't Dead! (1964)

Is it just me, or does this album cover have some serious mixed messages going on? I mean, why contrast a prim, proper, middle-aged Christian woman with a hypodermic needle full of heroin? Or criticize Nietzche's most famous quote by putting a repudication of it next to some gigantic booze bottles? Is the woman in the corner beckoning us as a sinful harlot or is she hoping for release from her colorful glass prison? Maybe she just has a migraine from trying to figure out what's going on in this album cover. Maybe she's the afformentioned Late Liz, too late to show up clearly on the album cover and thus doomed to loom in shadow forever. If nothing else, Gertrude's huge, dopey smile indicates that she might've been partaking from some of those bottles in the background herself.
